Top tips to make heading Back To School run smoothly
Does even the thought of getting ready for back to school make you stressed? And all you want to do is make the September transition run as smoothly as possible? Believe us, we get it. Which is why we’ve found some great advice that will help heading back to school exciting and stress-free!
Sleep routines
Getting enough sleep is critical! Children who don’t get enough sleep lose concentration and find it difficult to learn. It’s just not healthy! Set a consistent bedtime for your child and stick with it every night. Develop an entire bedtime routine that includes bathtime, reading and final lights out, and remember to turn off all phones, iPads, games and TV.
Have conversations about worries
The aim of this is to acknowledge your child’s concerns and find solutions, not create more worries! Make time for little conversations about how they’re feeling about starting or going back to school, and convey calmness to your child.
Backpack safety
Choose a comfortable backpack with wide, padded shoulder straps. Perhaps pack heavier items closest to the centre of the back, as the backpack should never weigh more than 10% to 20% of your child’s body weight. It’s also helpful to go through the pack with your child weekly, and remove unneeded items to keep it light. Remind them to use both straps!

Be prepared
Get organised! Use a physical planner or a digital one that synchs all your family’s events and tasks into one space. Everyone’s on the same page! Also, create a space in your home to hang jackets, backpacks and keep shoes. Use baskets and bins to store school supplies.
Eating habits
Create a plan for school lunches! A weekly menu and grocery list, and discuss with your child what healthy snacks they’d like in their lunches, or allocate money for school lunches.
Good luck to all little ones on their new school adventure!
