Where does the tradition come from?
This is quite hard to believe, but our friends over in France and Germany celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve! By the 25th, the party is over. The tradition is believed to be derived from the German custom of opening presents on the night before Christmas. Like ‘Elf on the Shelf’, the Christmas Eve box tradition is quickly becoming a household staple across the country.
